Am quite astonished that my starting of this thread has brought about such an impact.

Mixed feelings...

I am very encouraged that there are several others who share the same sentiments as me, some of whom even contributing better viewpoints that have refreshed me.

However, it is saddening hearing from those others who are still bent on being on the opposite wavelength. I mean, well it's your free will and nobody can force you, but it is undeniable that you are the reason why this entire topic is borned.

You really do think that exceeding the limit by 10kmh gives you the liberty to hog the overtaking lane? How arrogant.

I do agree with you that we've gotta be fair and consider the heavier traffic in Sg. If you notice, in my last few paragraphs of the first post, I did mention that it is understandable if the 2nd lane is still occupied with relatively slower vehicles.

What I am particular about is that even in circumstances when the lanes are clear, these road hoggers continue to hug the overtaking lane!

first things first.

trucks should not be travelling on the 2nd lane.
that's the main cause of slow traffic on expressways nowadays.

secondly, move left unless overtaking.
if u see a whole stretch of cars on the 2nd lane and u plan to overtake them at 90km/hr, go ahead.

people can call it road hogging or whatever but to me you're overtaking.

but when the 2nd lane is empty, please move left so others can overtake u

I feel the reason that singaporeans, like in this case, show bad driving techniques/attitudes is because sg roads are really very easy to drive on. With a low level of difficulty, it means that one does not have to be really good in terms of driving skill and mentality to survive on the roads here. Has anyone ever seen the traffic in places like Shanghai, Taipei or even Bangkok or Malaysian roads? I bet there will be a substantial number of sg drivers who wouldn't survive a day there driving without causing an accident.

Ok I may have digressed from the main topic but basically what I am trying to say that the presence of road hogging probably stems from ugly singaporean mentality and easy roads to drive on. I'm not complaining about the ease of driving in sg roads. I am in fact more than thankful that I don't have to "fight a war" every time I drive out. Some sg drivers should really put things into perspective and take a look around and appreciate sg roads. Perhaps it is only then that they'll adopt a better attitude when driving

Perhaps S’porean drivers are too pampered. The govt should pass a bill that requires all drivers to take an advanced driving technique course to improve their driving skills.

agreed. not only will our roads be safer, but since there will be lesser people who pass, there will also be lesser cars on the road..which is what the government wants anyway. Very Happy

What I can't stand is ppl travelling 70~80 on the 1st lane of expressway... like they own the road... Rolling Eyes

travelling at 90 is fine with me but anything below that, when chance came, I would overtake on the left one... Laughing

What I cannot stand is that when cab enter the expressway, they would cut to the 1st lane from like 3rd or even 4th lane and by the time they reach the 1st lane, they are still travelling like 70... Rolling Eyes

really ar..i thought cab drivers always speeding de. haha usually is pple complain they too fast, you are one of the first people that say they too slow. they always cut lane without signalling and speed excessively lor. i think they drive even faster than those beng wrx drivers Shocked

nope. everytime i get blocked by a vehicle in the first lane, it's 80% of the time a taxi. maybe that's just cause there are so many taxis.. but i dunno..

oh and its also true that they only take lane 1 regardless of what speed they are going and what time of the day.

example:

4 am, KJE, 4 or 5 lanes, you will see the taxi on lane 1 when the other 3 or 4 lanes on his left are EMPTY and he's probably cruising at 80 or 90..

plus, most cars on the KJE at 4 am would be courteous to keep left or give way since it's such a wide open expressway but the taxis dont really care..

same goes for every other expressway.. of cos there are also cars like that but maybe its juz cause there are more taxis at 4am..

hm..maybe there are taxi drivers like that also la. but those i see are usually those speeding ones. i think cos 4am at night 80% of cars are taxis so will seem like that lor.

probably the speed they go also depends on the taxi bah. toyota crowns are usually the road-hoggers, hyundai sonata usually go at normal pace on the fast lane, and mercedes taxi just speed and cut lane everywhere they go. i see dunno how many times got mercedes taxi chiong past me on the expressway at night when i'm travelling at 120km/h, he's probably travelling at 150+km/h Shocked

Agreed that taxi drivers are one of the main trouble makers on the road. But you must look in the perspective.

Taxi drivers would normaly drive 12 hours a day, sometimes longer. They may not be as alert as normal drivers who at most only drives for 1 hour. Try sitting in an unconfortable car with noisy diesel engine with manual gear for 12 hours straight and drive perfectly. It's simply not possible. You will get backaches maybe after 3hours? Your left leg could be tired by stepping on the clutch countless of times. And the road is not exactly a nice place to spend 12 hours on. They have to look out for other traffic and keep their eyes open fighting off fitique.

Taxi drivers should be one of the most respected drivers on the road as driving a taxi is not easy at all. I agree that some may just cut lane and not signaling. But at least understand their plight and try to be understanding. But all these said, it is still not an excuse to drive recklessly. Not signaling is not a major offense, so don't get so worked up. They have a monetary target to meet.

So before we complain that taxi drivers are stupid or what. Think from their point of view first. The situation may not be as simple as what you think it is.

Yes, for your information, when people do that, I reflect as well and make sure I don't do that kind of a thing. I may feel I am not good enough as a driver on the road, but that's because I am new, not because I am blur. At the very least, I wish to be a sensible and safe driver.

Seriously, I think people here on the thread are not who we are complaining about - the road hoggers, and the speedsters. It's relative anyway, and judging from what I understand about human nature, if they have no regard and concern about road safety at all, they would not bother to discuss at great length and debate about road-hogging, tail-gating, or speeding, would they?

Malaysian's Malay bastard drive 50km/h on the fast lane hoping to take over the cars on the middle lane and even he got the chance to get back in middle lane, he still keep on his fast lane to take over another car which is around 1km ahead of him.. WTF !!!

So why so many accidents, bcuz we just cant stand those bastards who drive like a turtle and taking their leisure time enjoying the view or the cars.. Fark off... and then when there is accidents they blame on ppl who take over them too fast lol
